It’s a great time to be a Dungeon fan!
Yiri and I are working hard on our next book and have just decided to call it Global Power: a Discovery in Comics, rather than World Domination: a Discovery in Comics. There’s a subtle difference there.
I’m so excited about it and really in a nice work flow right now. But the thing is, it won’t be out for at least a year – it’s scheduled for Fall 2015 in The Netherlands, and Who Knows When, if at all, in the States. So marketing-wise there’s no point in talking about it yet.
But I’m so excited about it!
Last week, I had the idea of putting in a scene between Yiri and me playing a game of Monopoly – but I wasn’t at all sure how well known the game really is. So I posted the question on my Facebook page and was swamped with reactions like “Really?! You don’t know how popular Monopoly is???”.
So no trouble there.
Here are two pages of the end result. There is a third page as well, but I’ll leave that for later. Ha, how’s that for a cliffhanger, marketing-wise…?
Christmas is coming early this year! To celebrate the release of the fourth and final volume of Dungeon Twilight, NBM is rereleasing classic editions of Dungeon! The creator of Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time, Pendleton Ward, holds Dungeon in great acclaim:
“Dungeon comics — that’s a big inspiration for me and the crew who write on the show. Dungeon’s a great comic, and I look to it for the sort of casual conversation they have with the big fantasy world that they all live in.”
Lock yourself up with the Dungeon series this November!
Summer is winding down, the kids are going back to school, and Patrick Atangan (The Yellow Jar,Silk Tapestry) has been reflecting on what makes us, us. He shares his reflections with rich and imaginative illustrations.
Tom Spurgeon of The Comics Reporter reports, “This isn’t the style I remember for Patrick Atangan, best known to me forThe Yellow Jar, which has to be a decade in the rearview mirror at this point. I’d take a look at it for the visual style employed in the preview all by itself.”
This collection of short stories forms a singular narrative that reveals the tiny moments when you realize you are at the precious end-days of youth. Atangan creates an intricate mosaic from his own childhood memories as well as those gathered from friends and family. Bittersweet, joyful and reflective, these are the type of marking moments that best define us as adults. By the author of the Yellow Jar and Silk Tapestry.

Vol.4: High Septentrion & The End of Dungeon
Johann Sfar, Lewis Trondheim, Alfred, Mazan.
The last two stories of Dungeon!
In High Septentrion, there has been a violent eruption on the planet of Terra Amata. It’s a scramble to find breathable air, but the wizened blind, mystical dragon the Dust King (Marvin) thinks that it is perhaps time for him to die heroically. However the feisty young Marvin the Red refuses to give up and plans to find a way out of this mess, including finding a way to actually breathe… Art by Alfred of “Why I Killed Peter.”
And in The End of Dungeon the more the islets of the planet Terra Amata move upward, the less there is of breathable oxygen. While Marvin the Red and Zakutu, daughter of the Grand Khân, attempt to protect the seven objects of Destiny, Herbert and the Dust King are forced to swear allegiance to the Dark Entity in order to gain access to breathable air.
All things must come to an end and so it is with the great Dungeon.

I’m looking forward to Invincible Days coming out this week. I wrote this book over a period of about 10 years so there are a lot of stories that didn’t make the cut. These are supplemental pages that I could quite fit in due to pacing issues. The book is divided into 4 sections each themed on a particular season. It is about growing up I use the change of seasons as a metaphor for the passage of time and the death of childhood.
INVINCIBLE DAYS by Patrick Atangan – in stores soon!
