Pub day is always exciting, and this book is no exception. It's still surreal every time a stack of my drawings is transformed into a book that people can pick up and read! Of course, this book has the additional bonus of being autobiographical and very personal. Much of my earlier adult autobiographical work was more...melancholy, I guess, and it would be easy enough to simply write about how hard being a parent can be, and how much having kids can grind you down. I've tried to become more positive about life, though, and I wanted to make comics about the other side of parenting - how mind-blowingly entertaining can be! Kids are weird in the best way, and they're amazing and funny. I made sure Simon got to read "his" book first thing after getting my author copies, and of course he had the perfect reaction.
Kids say such funny things, and what they say can also be so unexpectedly wise. If we can all laugh at ourselves, the world will be a happier place!
