Pages from Good: From the Amazon Jungle to Suburbia & Back
When thinking about the best way to tell David's story, I was inspired by what may be my favorite film of all time, Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire. In it, an angel named Damiel walks the earth, listening to and healing people, but really wants the chance to be one - to love, to bleed, to laugh, to experience life. He finally gets his chance, and when he does, the film - shot almost entirely in black and white - switches to color. In 'Good', as David grows up in suburban America, he feels isolated, like a fish out of water, and resorts to alcohol, running away, and other things to feel 'alive', so I kept these scenes in the U.S. in black and white. When he eventually returns to the rainforest as an adult, not unlike Damiel in 'Wings', he feels alive for the first time and his world is filled with vivid color.
